Small Talk Six!

image

Want to join in? Go here to learn how and to view the weekly Small Talk Six topics for 2010.

Today’s topic is “6 items that are on your grocery/shopping list every single week.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

1. Bread
2.Milk
3.Eggs
4.Cheese
5.Cereal or other breakfast items
6.Fresh Fruits & Veggies (depends on the meals for the week)

I know I’m so boring!!! Usually though we don’t grocery shop weekly. I like to plan two weeks worth of meals that way I only have to go to the grocery store 2 times a month. And I like to keep the main staples in our home for almost any meal!

Favorite Fluff Friday – Wee Essentials Soap Bits

Welcome back to Favorite Fluff Friday. It’s so good to be back this week! After a week full of rough goings on my part, I’m glad to be back on a roll and back to bringing you my favorite products.
This weeks Favorite Fluff Friday is brought to you by Top to Bottom Baby Boutique. Top to Bottom Baby Boutique is an online store run by a husband and wife team of Jess & Justin Quick. Justin & Jess decided to start their own Boutique after having issues with their cloth diaper service and then having to wait whenever they ordered diapers online. They also saw a need for a Cloth Diaper retailer in the Omaha, Nebraska, area! Jess is also AWESOME!! When I emailed her asking her about some laundry soap, instead of emailing me back she just picked up the phone! Who does that??

Jessica was kind enough to stick some Wee Essentials Soap Bits into my order and asked me to do a review on them. I have to admit I’m not a big cloth wipe user. Not because it’s hard, but because Kaitlynn dislikes having the cold wet on her bum. (and well I hate to admit this as well, but I’m a cheap-o mom who won’t buy a wipe warmer!) We have plenty of wipes from our adventures trying out different Cloth Wipes solutions.

Never have I found a product that I actually liked to use on my wipes. Other types of wipe cubes I’ve used have lead to stinky issues in our wipes after a few days. Any of you know who use wash clothes, for yourself, know how they tend to stink after having water sit in them for a day or so. I was having the same issues with my wipe solutions. The wipes would sit for a couple days in the solution and then just stink. Not the case with Wee Essentials Soap Bits.
Wee Essentials Soap Bits are so simple to use!! You just take one to two soap bits out of the bag, put them in your glass measuring cup/bowl/whatever add 8 oz (1cup) of hot water and then microwave for 30 seconds. Grab out a spoon, stir it up (just to make sure it’s all dissolved, which after 30s it should be!) and pour over your wipes. Now the directions say to just use 8oz of water, but I’ve found that I like to add another 8 oz of COLD water after pouring over your wipes helps in keeping the amount of wipes I put in my container wet! Also using the cold water makes it so you can use these wipes right away instead of having to wait for them to cool. If you’re anything like me, you realize you’ve run out of wipes right before a nice poopy diaper! :)
DSC00211DSC00216
And the best part about using Wee Essentials Soap Bits, my wipes don’t stink. Even if they’ve sat in there all weekend and we haven’t used a single one! (Kaitlynn was at grandpa’s house and in disposables) We were able to use all of the wipes out of the container without having to wash them again! Not to mention they come in TONS of YUMMY scents to choose from!!!!

Thursday Thunks

image

I’m trying something new! You can learn more about it here!

1. Someone knocks on your door. You have not seen this person in years. You were once great friends. Who would you like it to be and why? I’d hope it was my BFF from HS. We haven’t talked since  a few months after our wedding, and she recently had a baby, and man I miss her!! I’d hope that we could still talk forever and things would be the same, but I’m sure they wouldn’t be.
2. What do you think would be a great song title that isn't one? Who do you want to record it? This one is hard! I’m totally not good at that. So sorry, I’ll leave you in the dark!
3. You are having a party. If I'm invited, what should I bring? Bring a friend, and well something tasty. Food is always good!
4. If your spouse or s/o cheated with a one night stand while away, would you really want to know? Most defiantly. I would hope that they were honest enough with themselves to believe we could work through it.
5. How long does it take for a house guest to drive you bonkers? Depends on the guest! But usually a few days!
6. If you could pick a new color for the sky, what would you pick? Pink, or sun shiny yellow!
7. What did you think of the Olympics? What I watched, they were okay. But that wasn’t a lot!
8. Could TT have thought of a lamer blogger that me to guest host? Considering I don’t “know” you….I don’t think you’re lame! Well unless you’re like 50 and still live at home with your mommy, and have no intention of EVER moving out. Then yup, you’re lame!
9. What's the stupidest lie that someone really thought you'd believe? Oh, the kids tell me lots of little things they think I’ll always believe, sometimes it’s fun just to hear them think!
10. What was the best day you had in high school? Tell us about it. Hum….lots of fun times back in the day!
11. Name something that you have in your home that you are sure most people don't. Well it’s not in my home, but it’s in my garage…Semen…bull semen, in tanks of Liquid Nitrogen.
12. Why haven't you at least tried to play The Dating Profile Meme? Sorry but that looks weird!
13. Do you think homophobia is a choice? Yup!

Ten on …um… Thursday

So I was a complete slacker on blogging this week. I figured taking a week off would give me lots of time to just blog about the good ole stuff that I have sitting here on my computer waiting to get blogged about. But instead I complained about my tooth and how I wasn’t up to doing much…..here we go!

1. Monday I had to work all day and so being in pain I decided to call the dentist again.

2. Tuesday brought a trip to the dentist where he confirmed that I had a partially dry socket. Thus the reason for all the pain still in my tooth. They packed it with medicated gauze and I now go back today! :(

3. I of course was feeling better after getting my tooth packed and after slacking all weekend I’ve got a house to clean! :( So that’s what I’ve been up to. Is it bad when your house is so bad it takes you DAYS just to clean one level. Then again I’m still exhausted so I get tired really easily!

4. Dahrran turns 7 this weekend. What are we getting him for his birthday? The latest greatest toy? Nope. We got him a …wait for it…wait for it… piece of ply wood! Yup, a 4x8’ sheet of ply wood! Now you have to know Dahrran. He’s a farm kid all the way. His room is full of tractors, barns and animals. With the carpet on his floor it makes it quite hard to get animals and fence to stand up on. Thus the ply wood. I’m in the process of sanding it and painting it green.

5. How do you hid a piece of ply wood that big…and get it painted?? Well you tell him it’s for a guy that Grandpa works for….cause you know this “guy” needs a set of wooden fence made as well for his “grandson” and so my dad is making it! RRRRRRRRIGHT!

6. Bet you can’t guess what my dad is getting Dahrran for his birthday! :)

7. Dahrran is having 3 friends over for a sleep over on Friday night. Would it be bad of me to send the girls to grandpa’s house for the night??? I’m thinking it would be best so the boys aren’t bothered, and well that way the girls don’t feel left out!

8. It’s almost noon, and I still have to take a shower. Oh, and be out the door in 25 minutes so we can get some lunch before my dentist appointment!

9. I’m super excited for tomorrow’s Favorite Fluff Friday!!!!!!!!

10. Okay I really have to get in the shower. I’ve slacked  cleaned way too long today and so I have to get moving!

Still under the weather!

Ugh. Who knows this tooth thing would be that bad? Not me. But honestly I’m tired of not feeling good.

When I went in last week to have my wisdom tooth pulled, I figured I might be under the weather until Friday or so, and then should be well on my way back to normal.

Here it is Monday night and I’m still in pain. Pain to the point of being nauseous. I’m not sleeping which is making me tired.

I go back to the dentist tomorrow at 8:30am. They say it’s a dry socket! :(

So hopefully I’ll start feeling better soon! :( Cause really…..taking care of everyone and being in pain stinks!

So you’re just starting out….

When I was pregnant my mom told me about how her neighbor’s daughter was planning to cloth diaper her new baby, who was due just a few short weeks after us. I told my mom she must be crazy, and good luck to her. My mom informed me that these were the cutest little diapers and they used snaps and were waterproof. I still told my mom, well I hope she likes it, but it’s not for us!

After looking into the diapers she was planning on using and thought they were super cute, but really the poop factor just wasn’t wining me over anytime soon. Fast forward 6 months and here I was with a sweet little 6 month old, and a pocket book that is being crunched. I start looking even more. When my BFF decided she was going to buy a couple cloth diapers to try out. Being the follower that I am, I figured aw heck, why not! And to top it off, the store where I ordered them offered a 30 day money back guarantee. I figured if I didn’t like them I could get my money back no matter what!

After using them for a week, and getting so tired of not really getting the feel for them by only using two and then having to wash I decided to buy a whole starter pack. Still with the thinking if we don’t like them we can send them back. I’ve never looked back. Once I started using them full time, I didn’t even think about sending them back!

See Kaitlynn’s little fluffy bum. The last picture you can barely see it, but it’s there!

Looking back there are a lot of things I wish I’d done differently. So here’s a few pointers to you mom’s out there who are “newbies” to the whole Cloth Diapering experience!

*Don’t buy all the same brand of diapers when you start*
Just buy a couple. You may LOVE one brand now, but in two months when you find something new you’ll LOVE it too! Trust me on this one. Slowly build up your stash! One or two diapers at a time!

*Try different types of diapers to see what you like*
We’ve been an only pocket diaper family for 2 years now. That is until I found fitted love! I now prefer the fitteds at home and pockets for the road. I wish I’d branched out more to try all types of diapers! Because now if we get pregnant again, I’m not going to know which diapers to start with! :(

*Get in a wash routine from the start*
Even if you only have 5 diapers, get in a routine you like and stick with it. Yes you can have slack days here and there, but be sure to stay on top of it. It will cause you less headaches in the future. We were horrible about having a routine. I at one time had upwards of 20 diapers and thought it was okay to go through them all before washing! BIG mistake! We ended up with smell issues so bad where I was ready to quit diapering. Thankfully they were save-able with a little hard work on my part to get them back in tip top shape! We’re now on a STRICT (well okay sometimes I still miss a day, but not a week like before) routine of washing diapers every other day. No stink issues at all!

*Spend the extra money to buy “cloth diaper” detergent*
At first you’ll think, I can get by with just using less detergent of our current. But believe me don’t do that! Also don’t go to your local supermarket and buy one that is on the “list” of “safe” detergents! These so called “safe” detergents can leave soap in your diapers, thus adding to your buildup issues! If I can recommend one detergent…it’s Rockin Green!

*Buy snap diapers over aplix*
At first you may think that Velcro (known as aplix) diapers are easier. (I did) But in the long run if you feel you’ll be diapering more than one child or longer than a year it’s best to go with snaps. Velcro diapers have a tendency over time to curl and not stick. Leading to diapers that come undone which leads to even more messes! AND snap diapers are harder for little ones to get undone when they learn to strip off their clothes!

*Buy Local if possible*
If you’re the type of person who loves to play with things before buying, this is your best option. Not only will you get the support of a local mom/dad who is doing it in their house, but you’ll get all your questions answered at any time! You’ll grow a great bond with these people, and maybe even become best friends! Not to mention you’re supporting your local economy and Work-at-Home parents!

Last but not least……

*Don’t be afraid!*
Cloth diapering is easy peasy, lemon squeezie!

(I was not paid to advertise in any form, this is just my honest opinion!)
